The only thing I didn't have on hand was the RTD board (~$10) and LCD displays (~$10).
I was able to fix the voltage issue I was having by adding a few opto-isolators between the Arduino and the burner. I then powered the Arduino using a separate power supply. But, when I was verifying the fix...
Well... After mounting the arduino inside the case I now have straight 240 vac from the ground of the arduino to the case... It however isn't happening all the time... Not really sure what's going on as I didn't see or feel this before and trust me I would have known as the pot is also 240 to...
Another update... I was able to get the burner working with the arduino! See more details here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/avantco-ic3500-induction-burner-hacked-by-an-arduino.643805/
I have been able to get the Avantco IC3500 Induction Burner working with an Arduino using a PID loop!
Let me first give credit to the folks over at Openschemes for initiating this hack: http://openschemes.com/2011/04/28/manual-control-of-the-1-8kw-induction-cooktop/
Without them I wouldn’t...
Just an update... With help from the above post by Foamenter I was able to get my Avantco 3500 working with a PID controller... Now I'm hooking it up to a Arduino. I'm Making really good progress and should have all the parts here by the end of the week and I will hopefully have something...
Anyone have a broken IC3500 sitting around? I think I fried my control board this past weekend by touching a switch to chassis ground! :( PM me if you do!
Lucky I could finish brewing outside! :mug:
Automatic Control with the Avantco burner... Sure? Anything can be automated with a slight hack (right)?!?!
I have been working on this for a while now (OK, more thinking), and one may say it's still at the "idea" stage... But with two young kids I barely have time to brew!
Anyway, here...
Tried two steel plates with no success. Going to be getting the IC3500, like I should have in the first place! Thanks for the help!
P.S. I will be posting my two IC1800's in the for sale section soon...
