Wanted to send along an update. We had what seemed like 30 straight days of rain and a LOT of it in late June, early July. I was really concerned about the amount of rain on the young plants, but with a couple weeks of dry weather they are doing fairly decent I'd say for first year. I know...
Yessir. the ones to the right are Magnum. The other two sections are Centennial and Cascade. We will obviously keep the varieties separate when we expand but first wanted to make sure its viable here.
Figured I'd post some pictures of our first year, nano hop yard here in NC. Situated on cattle farm in NC, hence the name. We plan to grow, but starting with only 100 plants.
I've never used immersion, but I recently picked up a Blichmann therminator and it cooled my 6gal of wort down in one pass to 78-80 degrees. I know these guys are pricey, but dang it worked good for me.
After my first failure with the frozen/blocked piple, I tried again but this time I let the wort fill up the coil first. Then I put the ice in the tub. this worked well for cooling as the wort came out around 75 degrees. However since I was gravity feeding and only using 3/8 pipe it was very...
Anybody in the Raleigh area have or know anyone that does TIG/Stainless welding? Working on my single tier keg brewing system, have all the holes drilled, fittings ready to go, but no welder.
Welcome guys. Also in Raleigh here and agree that the guys American Brewmasters are awesome. Did you guys hear about the home brew competition at the NC state fair this year? check out http://ncbrewerscup.org/2012/06/nc-state-fair-adds-nc-brewers-cup-competition/
The chiller actually worked too well, or should I say it was user error. The mistake I made was putting the ice in the tub before I had wort in the coil. Once I put the ice in the tub, the water that was left over from cleaning froze and essentially blocked the wort from going through. After...
That definitely was a thought i had, but i can buy a 10 lb bag for a buck a piece so i figured it was still a viable option. looking forward to see how it performs, hoping to do a batch this weekend.
thanks for the feedback
I've seen the immersion chillers and such, but decided to try my own technique. Instead of an immersion chiller I figured i'd run 50ft of 3/8 copper through and Iced up tub. It's not finished yet, have some cleanin up to do on the joints and such, but wanted to see if anyone had any feedback...
Hey all. Not sure if this is news to everyone or not, but wanted to share anyhow. Looks like home brewers as well as commercial brewers will be able to compete at the 2012 NC state fair this year.
