    Software available

Hello. I would like to point your attention to this small very usefull free software, Brew Friend, that a friend of mine, Søren Tygesen, has made. Its been available for a few years on my homepage, and is now in version 3.50. As we live in Denmark it uses the metric system, but its in...

Next year I'll..........(fill in the blank)

Build some kind of wire support for the end poles in my hop garden. This first year they were just barely able to withstand the weight of the wines. Next year they will be heavyer. YouTube - Hop Harvest 2008 A small movie from my hop garden. Most hops are harvested this first year. More...

Hole size in sparge ring or a mesh in the lauter tun?

(Det er altid godt at møde nye venner :-) ) I dont,'t brew in a bag. We were some brewers who tried to get this system build, and the raisable lauter tun is made in stainless steel by a lokal smith who owed one of my brewfriends in the local brewclub a favor. The crane is build by my brother...

Hole size in sparge ring or a mesh in the lauter tun?

Hi. Thank You for the answers. You're right. I used a pump to cirkulate without a vorlauf i a directly heated kettle. I'll try to make a vorlauf the next time I brew. Additionally, I've made up my mind: I'll cut my stainless steel wiremesh to fit the bottom of the mashtun. I'll probably have...

Hole size in sparge ring or a mesh in the lauter tun?

Hi. Really no one with a suggestion or oppinion on this? Should I make the holes in the sparge ring larger, or put a fine meshed wireweb in the mashtun as a strainer above the existing bottom/strainer? (my english isn't so well, so may be I did't get the question right the first time?)...

Hole size in sparge ring or a mesh in the lauter tun?

Hi. I made a copper sparge ring for my setup with a raisable lautertun in a brewkettle. The holes in the lautertun are 20 x 2 mm and covers the entire bottom. The holes in the sparge ring are made with a metal saw. More photos can be seen at my homepage in the section called...

Recirculating mash? how to do it?

Heck. I'm so proud of this system, I'll throw in another picture of how the spargering looks. And this is the raisable mashtun: Regards Lars www.larchris.dk

Recirculating mash? how to do it?

Hi. I brew in a 60 l kettle with a 6 KW propane burner mounted underneath. In side the kettle is a stainless steel mash tun. I have build a spargering, that fits through a hole in a lid, to spred out the hot worth. To raise the mashtun out from the kettle my brother in law build me a crane...

    Stainless steel integrity question.

From what I've heard you should always use completely new steel tools, or tools only used for SS when using it on SS. This is what I do. Regards Lars www.larchris.dk

    Yeast starter/stir plate theory confusion

Hi. This was just my point. When the stirrer rotates very fast, the whirl in the middle can get quite deep. My guess was that the surface of the liquid gets bigger- and broken up to better let in the O2 and let out the CO2. I made this test-setup to day to illustrate my point: My...

    Yeast starter/stir plate theory confusion

Hi. This is a very interesting thread. I bought a Heidolph 2. hand professional stirplate. I don't get nearly as fast a rotation of the magnet, as I've seen the homemade stirrers are getting. I have tried different sizes of stirring magnets. Does the rotation speed have any influence...

    Hopper design for Crankandstein?

Thats right. I just felt that this crush was great. I got a effiency on 77.7 which I find fine, as we accidentially lost between 1 and 2 liters (1/4 - 1/2 Gal.) of wort as we were transfering it from the kettle to the lautertun. :( Do You think it would get better with a finer crush? Lars
