Dont know, as long as it turns out good I guess

5 gal Treetop, 2 lb dextrose, Nottingham just like recipe calls for... I aerated it with an O2 bottle and stone, but no difference in the recipe. I dropped the campden tabs in 24 hrs before I pitched to kill any bad guys. I plan on force carbonating in the end.

    Dave's Carmel Apple Cider

Started this last week and showed no signs of life for almost 2 days. Now it has blasted off. Many people in the thread mentioned that they don't see much activity with ciders, so I didn't use a blow-off tube....well, it needed it and is still blowing suds through the airlock over the last two...

So I am going to make this because it sounds delicious, but I plan on kegging and force carbonating. To anyone that has done this, did you add the juice concentrate and all the syrup before carb'ing? Seems like it will come out too sweet with no further fermentation. Has anyone kegged/carb'd...

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

Anyone brewed this with WLP005 British Ale? Bought it and thought I would give it a try.

Ok...so i got it figured out. My equipment settings were off. With lactose now its giving 1.063. It is estimating my FG at 1.008 but obviously that is telling me the lactose is fermenting when its not. Still, that seems low even adding the points for the lactose thats still there in the end...

So with everyone ending up in the 1.060-1.070ish range, this is to include the gravity of the lactose right? Beer smith projects my OG at 1.056. I've matched the recipe and can't figure out why its giving me the low number. Want to brew it this weekend, but want it to be on par.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: A Welding primer for homebrew

I'm not trying to argue the fact that back gassing is more sanitary, just wondering if its even worth considering redoing the fittings for something on my scale and not for sale to the public. No debate from me that it bugs the hell out of me looking at it, but its a pain to redo it...

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: A Welding primer for homebrew

All that makes sense but in when discussing kettles, everything is boiled and brought up to temp inside. It just seems negligible aside from a small possibility of corrosion getting into the wort (if it got out of control).

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: A Welding primer for homebrew

First let me say I work in fabrication though I don't do welding, but I had my buddy TIG weld my fittings into my kettle. Even though I mentioned to him about back gassing it when I gave it to him, he didn't end up doing it. The back side is somewhat rough looking with slight rust tint...

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Brewed this up last night and had one hell of a stuck sparge. I'm guessing the oats contributed to that. Despite over-sparging and the final volume being off a little, I hit pre/post boil hydro readings on the head. She is churnin' today...gonna be hard to wait for this one!
