Its only ales and bitters I am doing at the minute, My first brew which I didn't use finings is quite clear after 6 days in the bottle and tastes fine so I'm not sure about extra expenses. I only use beer its and not really in to boiling and stuff

I dont use kegs, fridges etc, my plan is to only put my bottles in a fridge 2 hours before drinking. I dont like ale too chilled

Sound advice and very true, the closer I can get my beer to pub quality the better , even if I have to put the cost up a bit I don't care. Better to have a quality pint at £1 than one that is flat and green at 40p a pint

I started with the full kit, got fermenting bin, 40 bottles, to tins of extract, little bottler thermometer, sanitising crystals, hydrometer,carbonisation drops. I don't think I will use the drops again though. I have a Scottish heavy on the go now. I hear that Newkie is very nice so I will get...

Do finings really help ? I remember 40 years ago using them regularly but forget if they done any good

What are you planning to brew next. I'm only in to ales,bitters etc, I might do lagers as we come in to the cooler weather

I have bottled a St Peters Ale and just made a Scottish heavy today

I have bottled it on Wednesday and ended up with a half bottle so I am keeping an eye on it, so far its carbonating well, obviously still cloudy but really nice taste. I have put the rest in my coal shed which is obviously dark

I hope my first brew is somewhere near that

according to the kit it's 4.7 but doing the maths its more 5.1 :p

This is a new batch, I got the other one sorted, got it down to a steady 21c and it tastes nice. I am bottling it now. Is there any way of keeping the temp down when I do this latest batch.

Would I be ok in using 1kg of light malt spray in my Scottish heavy kit. I ordered it by mistake instead of the dark one. By the way I'm a newbie, so yes I am stupid :ghostly:
