Doing BIAB, you can crush it as fine as you want.

Try unscrew the hose from the burner, and open slowly for the propane, you should hear the gas come out of the hose, if not, then regulator is defective or tank is empty. Look for TARA, that is the weight of the empty tank, if tank weighs more, then you should be good to go.

No need to top up, why make thin beer? Topping up could cause infection/oxidating of the beer I ferment about 20-25 liters in my 40 liter carboys, have made around 800 liters in 3 years, never had an infection.
