relay controlled fermenter : what am I doing wrong?

I put the SSR down by the compressor and just ran a 2 wire cable to control it. No room needed in the arduino box.

Why not use an SSR? They can be driven directly from the Arduino if you get one that operates at 3 + volts on the input. I'm using an extra one I had laying around and have no problems. Available for about 5 to 10 bucks.

How to properly use crimp terminals

For the amount of money that most of use have involved in our brewing systems this crimper is a small expense to making it more reliable. Crimps are one of the most common failure points in our wiring.

    Almost an Electric Fire!

Some crimpers do not form a dimple when they crimp, they use a ratcheting mechanism to squeeze the terminal to a preset value by the mechanism. At least with that type all the crimps will be at the preset force when crimped. With the lineman pliers it is up to you to gauge the force that you...

    DIN Contactor Wiring

I would put the breaker in front of the contactor. You want the breaker to protect the SSR and element.

    More crap electronics

The key switch is more than just bling in my mind, it prevents young (well maybe even older) fingers from turning power on and burning up elements, etc. Many power tools have a key or other method to do this preventing unauthorized use of the tool. John

    More crap electronics

I really do not see the need for a volt/amp meter on these control panels. What do you gain from it? What are you going to do if say the voltage is 200? Besides it is another item to fail. Yes it looks nice when you show off your panel, but it does not make your beer better. If your power...

    Grounding Your Panel

You should not be able to loosen it from the out side. Nut it from the inside and make sure to remove any paint under the nut.

SSR, Heatsink and Thermal Grease Question

It looks like the mounting locations are to low (or is it high?) to me. The gap between the SSR and the heat sink looks pretty consistent to me from the photo. Maybe try sanding in that area first then lap it all flat.
