Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

+1 for hot mitts. I use the ove glove to spare my fingerprints. I'm piecing mine together like the brew boss model. 1/2" out to a 1.5" tri-clamp tee.

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I love this thread and the idea. I am thinking about doing this, but wanted some opinions first. I have a 1/2" hole near the top of my BK that I use for whirlpool right now. There is a quick disconnect on the outside which I could use to pop on a condenser, but I am wondering if that size is...

    Serving Nitro Beers Correctly

Thanks for the nice comments! This was a fun article to write. I love Nitro beers, and hope this makes it easier for somebody else to get into it!

    NE IPA finished dry

Well, I did an experiment when I got home and put a little dextrose in a cup of beer I poured. It made all the difference in the world, confirming the theory about mash temps. We mashed at 151, I think we go to 155 next time. I ended up boiling some water with dextrose and added to the keg...

    NE IPA finished dry

I'll be able to get a gravity reading once I get my new hydrometer tonight. I don't imagine that S-04 took me down much past 1.018, but I'll know for sure later.

    NE IPA finished dry

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm still new to this gig, so I'm curious about how that will help the beer to be less dry? I just want to understand mash temps better.

    NE IPA finished dry

I just brewed a juicy bits clone with el dorado, citra, and mosaic in equal parts. The recipe called for a lot of hops during a 40 minute whirlpool and even more during the dry hop. The beer smells amazing, exactly as I hoped it would. I fermented with s-04 starting at 70 and went up to 73. OG...

Cfraftbeer Pi vs Elsinore 2.0 for Hosehead?

for the components it takes to build Hosehead, the prefab makes for a pretty great deal. The only issue I have is that there are a bunch of GPIO pins I can't get to unless I mod the box. It might happen as I get further into my brewing, but I am highly satisfied for now. Not to mention that...

Michigan Two 5 gal ball lock cornies

A fair question. My answer for now is probably just habit. I have two 6gal glass carboys. What are your thoughts on the difference between fermenting in carboys vs cornies?

Cfraftbeer Pi vs Elsinore 2.0 for Hosehead?

I just did my first brew on the hosehead. I used both platforms with only water and settled on Elsinore 2.0 for my setup. The biggest reason - I need duty cycles for my BK. I did not put a port in for a temp probe there. I figured boiling water is easy for me to see, so I don't need the computer...

Michigan Two 5 gal ball lock cornies

I have 5 right now, but really only need three. My keezer can't hold that much beer! I'd love to trade these for some smaller 2.5 or 3 gallon cornies if anybody wants to trade to a bigger capacity. Otherwise, I'm selling these together for $100. I'm thinking I'd rather do local pickup only...

    Spa panel question

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I have EVERYTHING set up except for the GFCI, and I want to brew this weekend! I have some extra cord to wire up a spa panel, plus it is easy to take with me if I move. I think that I will plan to use the spa panel and go from there. I also appreciate your words...

    Spa panel question

I have a 30a breaker in my main breaker box right now. I'd like to wire a spa panel up to it, but I'm not confident about the wiring. Spa panels are 50a GFI protected. Can I run the lead out of my 30a breaker into my 50a spa panel to feed a 30a circuit? The wire that would go from my spa panel...

    Michigan Camlock fittings

These were used for homebrewing. I cleaned them, but clearly missed a few spots on some of the fittings.
