We do a podcast out of Charlotte NC called Cheers Charlotte Give it a listen. This week we did an episode for the ladies. We called it the "Thats What She Said" episode. The Charlotte Beer Babes joined us in studio, we talked with the National Homebrewer of the Year Annie Johnson the first...
What's this look like to you? I racked to secondary 4 days ago and now have a white film with spots on top. I got this once before on my 2nd batch ever. Thinking it was bad I dumped it. That was before I knew about homebrewtalk.com obviously.
So anyways am I dumping this one too?
I have a ss turkey pot that id like to get a ball valve/dip tube on to use as a lauter tun.
My question is can I still use that pot to fry my turkeys in come thanksgiving?
Are the bargainfittings.com style ball valves and dip tubes rated for 400° degree oil?
When you're doing extract brewing its easier to do a smaller boil. Then add the water in the primary.
One. it brings down the temp a lil quicker and two if you're doing it on a stove its much easier to boil 2.5 gls instead of a full 5.
Can I boil my stir bar to sanitize it?
Any way to make it quieter?
I have it just spinning in water now. Maybe an actual starter will be different.
Do I still let the starter settle out and pour off the worth then pitch?
Or is better to just keep it stirring until I'm ready to pitch...
I finally got my stir plate to function correctly!
My fan has 3 speeds and I get a good vortex in 500ml of water which is what I make my starters at.
I'm wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are to having a potentiometer are?
So I'm on my 2nd fan. Went from a 3in to a 4in. Thinking that was the problem that my "found" stir bar won't start spinning.
Do I need an actual stir bar? I'm using a threaded post that u would find in an electrical box in the ceiling.
Now I'm thinking my hard drive magnet isn't strong...
I always just clean them before storing. Then when its time to bottle a quick rinse with starsan and then bottle. Never had a problem.
I don't get the overkill on sanitizing. Baking, then washing, then sanitizing, then baking again blah blah blah.
In the middle of my brew day I realized I forgot to get more whirlfloc tablets. So had to go without.
I'm thinking transferring to a secondary and cold crashing will be enough?
Anything else I can do?
Do u have a lid on it? Might help to get it to a better boil. But you'll need to keep an eye on it so u don't boil over.
Make the investment in a turkey fryer. Its well worth it.
