    Northern Brewer - Buyer Beware

I know this thread has been quiet for a while but I thought I'd share some news. I recieved an email from Northern Brewer stating they are closing their retail locations August 31st. I stopped by the store and asked an employee if they were being offered other positions within the company...

Didn't dilute Northern Brewer Fast Pitch

You are correct, 2 16oz cans fast pitch and 16oz water added today, in each starter. I'm brewing a Vienna lager with a planned OG of 1.050.

Didn't dilute Northern Brewer Fast Pitch

I plan on brewing this Saturday and to get ready for it on Monday I made two yeast starters. I will be brewing 10 gallons and splitting between two carboys. I dumped one 16 oz can of Fast Pitch into a 2000mL container and another 16oz can into a second 2000mL container. I then split a packet...

Thanks all. I'll install it between 3-4 gallon mark.

    Best height for recirculation port

I am installing a whirlpool port on the BK because before sending the wort to the fermenter I will be chilling it and recirculating until it gets down to temp. Hopefully that way most of the cold break will stay out of my fermenter. I have read that it will cool faster if the recirculation...

    Best height for recirculation port

I just bought two spincycle submerged whirlpool returns from brewhardware.com, one for the HLT and one for my BK. My question is, how high should I mount them? I was thinking it wouldn't matter too much in the HLT so I would just put it an inch or two below the top of where the water will...

Started fermenting at too low a temp

I checked when I got home and the fridge is at the right temp and airlock bubbling away. I guess I panicked. Thank you for the replies. We'll see how it turns out.

Started fermenting at too low a temp

The starter was close to the same temp. I ran out of O2 but did get a little in there. Those bottles don't last as long as I thought they would. I will see if I have activity by tonight. Hopefully I'm worrying for nothing.

Started fermenting at too low a temp

Yesterday I brewed up a batch of Marzen. I pitched a 2 liter starter of Wyeast 2633 Octoberfest lager blend when the wart was about 60 to 65 degrees and then placed it in my beer fridge. I looked this morning and still see zero activity in the air lock. I started thinking that I may have set...

Sloped bottom mash tun/ two vessel system

I couldn't agree more. I've made less than stellar beer in my career and enjoyed doing it. I love the experimentation. Does anyone other than ss brewtech make a sloped bottom kettle? If I'm gonna have the MT elevated cip becomes more important and a sloped floor would be nice.

Sloped bottom mash tun/ two vessel system

BIAB is amazing. I just enjoy I may end up following in your footsteps. But for now I enjoy modifying my setup and experimenting.

Sloped bottom mash tun/ two vessel system

I'm more than happy with BIAB. I just want to continue to improve in incriments if possible. I just am shooting for a happy medium before I drop more than $1000, maybe $1500 on going all grain, three vessel, two pumps and more electronics.

    Equipment upgrade recommendations?

Given you original post and replies so far I would say either hold on to you money and assess your needs/ posibilities once you move, or set yourself up for kegging. It is so much easier than bottling. You could use your fridge as a fermentation and serving fridge for now. The only downside...
