Vienna Lager Boston Lager Clone (Decoction/Krausening AG recipe)

No that is compared to force carb. You don't have to carb with the krausening. Just add the saved wort let it sit for a couple days and then lager. It will work the same. After lagering, for a min of 4 weeks force carb it.

Protein rest would make the brew less cloudy. Krausening makes the brew very smooth and rounded in taste.

Bottling with DME rather than dextrose

Krausening does change the final product. Gives the a beer a MUCH smoother finish. You really notice it on a big beer. And I don't get what you mean by extra work. Putting 3 quarts of wort in self sealing mason jars and take a couple extra reading out of secondary is no big deal.

I'm sure there is some math on this somewhere but I have never used it. I only know that 3 quarts will get you close. Add 1 quart at a time so you don't up it too much.

if you are talking about the wort, save 3 quarts after the boil and can it in mason jars and refrigerate. Then, after fermentation is complete check your gravity and then add enough of the savexd wort to up the gravity by .003.

Just a couple questions on my first time kegging with my first lager

My lager was in primary for 1 week at 55 degrees. I slowly brought it down to 31 degrees in secondary. Total time in secondary was 8 weeks. I am real busy right now, so, I bought some kegging equipment. I left it at 31 degrees under 9PSI. Is this a typical post lagering set up? Would...

First Lager, its bubbling, does this look normal?

I just put this in a keg after lagering @31 for 8 weeks. I have it sitting @31 degrees and 9 PSI. See any problems with this?

That is what the thermostat should be set at. The actual temp is higher.

    Questions on bottling a lager...

1.046 I fly sparge with a false bottom cooler setup and get excellent efficiency every time by standing over it gently stirring the very top of the grain bed to fill in tunnels and by keeping the sparge water only a couple of inches off the grain bed. I sparge very slow as well, a rate of...

Do you bottle your lagers? I can't buy kegging equipment. My wife thinks the kids will get into it.
