    Textured Backgrounds

Hi all! I'm starting to put together some ideas for my first labels, and seeing lots of awesome ideas here. I'm using GIMP to put it all together. Something that I find makes some of these labels, on this forum, pop put are the great textured Backgrounds. Where is a good place to find these...

    God's Gift to Humankind

That gravy recipe looks really good. For anyone who just wants a simple alternative in order to get a decent glimpse into the taste, I would recommend going to a larger grocery store and look for a little package of 'St Hubert's' gravy. They sell them all over the place, in the US too. It...

    God's Gift to Humankind

Orpheus, Being an ex-pat from Quebec myself (move to Ontario), the two loves that I left behind were my favorite brewpub L'Inox and my Poutine. Just to clarify to things though on poutine - the cheese curds MUST squeak (only the freshest cheddar cheese curds will do) and it's pronounced...

    DIY Wireless Streaming Audio

Hey Yuri I've been toying with the same idea, but to go one step further not only to I want to be able to listen to my collection which is stored on my Mac in the basement, I want to be able to control the play as well. Unfortunately, to go that one extra step I've really been limited to...

Solder char/soot - how do you clean it off?

I've never had to clean the inside of my solder joints, but I have cleaned the outside very successfully using a stainless steel cleaning powder. You might want to try that with a pipe cleaning type of snake... Good luck!

    Ipod shuffle? How many podcasts...

I've got an old ipod shuffle (512 MB), and I use it for listening to podcasts constantly. It works quite well, but the only thing that bugs me is that there is no screen so if you dump too many podcasts on it, it's tough to figure out which episode you're listening to - you've actually got to...

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

Billpa, No worries about highjacking the thread. I put up the post because I'm looking for ideas, and yours is fantastic! I have a couple of those magnets at home, and I'll have to see how well it works. My only concern is that they are made to clean flat surfaces and I wonder how it will...

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

casebrew/neckbone, When I was drilling the glass counter top, I built a dam using plumbers putty, just under 1/4" high, and dropped the speed of my drill press to 600 RPM, and with the up down motion, it was very rythmic and the pressure I excerted was just enough so that there would be a nice...

Thanks again. I agree with what you guys are saying. It's great to have a sounding board to throw ideas at!

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

Thanks for the advice! I do really agree with the whole structural integrity of the glass as well. That's why I put up the posting. I never thought drilling a hole into a glass counter top would be a problem! (whoops!) I'm just hoping that maybe somebody out there has tried something similar...

Glass Carboy as a Conical Fermentor...

So I was listening to Basic Brewing Radio last night in the car and they were discussing conical fermentors, and it got me wanting to get one, but I just don't have that kind of money to throw at something that will just save me from sanitizing extra carboys and racking canes. So it got me...

    Making cheese

I've made cheese a couple of times now, and I'm still working on the process. It is a lot like homebrewing in that you can spend a lot of money on equipment, or be really creative and build your own. My setup was pretty simple: To control the temperature of my milk and rennet I placed a pot...

    Fortifying Beer Hard Stuff

Thanks for all the ideas, it's really appreciated. Toot, about this being wasteful, I've got some 40's that were filled at a bulk liquor store that we used to drop the cost of the open bar at our wedding. It's not exactly terrible, but I can't bring myself to drink so much - it's just not...
