I've had that in the past. Sometimes it tastes fine, other times foul.
Like the other poster said, trash that bucket. I've never been able to get an infected bucket totally clean again. Even if it isn't as bad, every beer made in it afterward will have some degree of pedicule development.
I...
Hi,
With Brewtroller's old forum gone, I have no other recourse than to ask here...
I have just found my RGBIO8 stuff. Time to redo the panel. My question is which way do I solder the LED to the four wires that plug into the board? Its really just which pin is the long leg on the LED. The...
I'm a glass carboy man. I used to use buckets, but the occasional infection steered me toward glass. My original plastic primary is long gone, but I'm still using my original glass carboy from six years ago. Once you have had to throw out two buckets, the carboy makes better economic sense...
You are on the right track. This is a step mash.
Basically mash in your grain with hot liquor to reach 95* for 30 min. Decant some of the wort and heat it, or directly heat the wort to hit the next target of 122* for 20 mins. The rest continues in the same fashion. After its all done the mash...
Yup that is pretty much it in a nutshell. However BT does now have iOS support (iPad + iPhone at least).
I went BT. The volume sensing is what did it for me. The open source nature appealed as well. That said, you can't go wrong with either.
I used London ESB (WY1968). Turned out great. Can't give you a comparison to Yooper's original as I haven't brewed it yet...
I don't think you could go wrong with either though. With a stout this rich subtle yeast flavours are not going to be too apparent.
I don't believe that BGE fixes the price per se, just that there is not much motivation for dealers to drop the list price. I live in a major metro area of ~2m people and there are only two dealers servicing it. Needless to say, the price is pretty much fixed around here.
I paid basically...
Dgonza9,
I do 5 gallon batches and my element is 4500w run on 120v (maybe 1125w). It has been no problem for me to set the temp to 170 and let it run itself up. I usually start at 120 and it takes about 1:15 to get up there. No scorching evident on the element post mash either...
I know it...
Five or six pints a night here. Doesn't matter what day. Mostly session beers to keep from getting trashed.
The only time that used to change was when I had early morning shifts flying freight. I had to cut myself off a couple short occasionally to be legal. Now I fly aerial photo so no work...
Thanks for the recipe Greencoat!
I've brewed this half a dozen times now. One of my favorites. I used Wyeast 2565 but otherwise followed the recipe. Turns out great every time. I have a tap on the kegorator dedicated to it now.
To think I was unaware of Altbiere for years makes me sad. My...
I used to be a bucket guy but have switched to carboys. All it takes is a few scratches to ruin a plastic bucket...
That said, I had carboys for secondaries already. When I stopped transferring to secondary as a rule, I had them 'leftover'. Re-purposed them as primaries and got rid of the...
I was going to suggest the furnace room to you! Its where I move my Belgians to ramp them up to the 70s to finish. Also a great location for bottle carbing as you found out...
AG brewer from Surrey BC here.
Started with extract about five years ago. Made the switch only when the owner of my LHBS, Dan Small (Dan's Homebrewing in Vancouver) 'refused' (lol) to sell me any more extract. That was about three years ago and I'm glad he did.
I'm running a direct fire...
I do indeed. Best pizza evar!
The large BGE is 18.5" across IIRC. My pizza stone is 16.5" so no issues there.
The BGE will hit the temps you want. I've had mine up to 900*. You may melt the gasket that hot (I did), but anything south of that is no problem generally. Replace it with a nomex...
