    Why Brite Tank?

I don't think "benefit" is the right term. They're likely using it as a tax determination vessel. Legally, since you are taxed by the volume of beer you produce, you must transfer the beer to a specifically measured vessel to record the total taxable volume prior to selling the beer. A lot of...

Anyone have a Lagunitas Fusion VII clone?

Just tried the Lagunitas Fusion VII the other day and was curious if anyone has tried to clone it. It's a super floraly, hop forward IPA. Here are a couple notes on Beer Advocate: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/220/73801 I don't see anything about it on their website...

How many gallons of BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde have been brewed?

    Another 5 here.... 2141.5 + 5 = 2146.5

First time with liquid yeast, should i use a starter?

No, my "logic" is that if it DOES swell, the yeast are OBVIOUSLY viable. Yeah, I know every once in a while you may get a pack that doesn't swell, but still has viable yeast; I've NEVER had that happen, but I recognize that it does happen. Look, I'm not going to argue with Revvy, but a blanket...

    Sanitizing Cocoa Nibs?

I agree with most people here: if your source is reliable and you don't mind the risk, dump them straight in; but if it were me, I'd soak them in a little vodka overnight first.

First time with liquid yeast, should i use a starter?

Wow, I'm pretty surprised these responses. Yeah, sure, starters are great for any situation, and a requirement for high gravity wort (above, say 1.060 or so), but c'mon, for your average 1.050 pale ale or what-have-you, a smack-pack on it's own is perfectly fine, especially for a new or amateur...

    Whirlfloc question

+1 -- you need to let it settle out. However, I think most people who whirlpool in the kettle are using an immersion chiller, not a CFC. Personally, as soon as I flame out, I immediately push it through my CFC, I dont like luke-warm wort sitting in my kettle, so I don't whirlpool before going...

    re using yeast

    1. There are TONS of threads about washing and reusing yeast. Search. 2. I wouldn't really suggest reusing any yeast from brews with heavy adjuncts (eg pumpkin) as the yeast likely has worked a little harder and may have adapted in strange ways 3. ??? 4. You're washing yeast to reuse it and...

Wow, 17 pages and only one picture of the actual finished product? Post 'em up! I wanna see what kind of body/head color/lacing this thing has!

Recipe Request - Citra Pale Ale

Here's one I brewed a couple weeks ago. It's kegged and aging now; I think it turned out great. IBUs and OG might be a bit high for what you're looking for, but this is a good place to start. Also, I'd maybe substitute something a little more mellow for the bittering hops... maybe some...

    Hydrometer reading changes over time

Yup, that's my bet too. I always take a couple readings after spinning the hydrometer and bobbing it up and down. Make sure the tube is perfectly vertical and that no part of the hydrometer is touching anything except liquid.

What did you bottle / Keg today?

Kegged an American Wheat & Rye. 50% 2-row, 25% Wheat, 25% Rye, 30 IBUs of Citra. OG 1.064, FG 1.012. I think it's gonna turn out great, even though I had a hell of a time sparging with all that wheat and rye.

    nothing but foam :(

Yup, sounds like it's overcarbed. It may take a few days, but you can bring it back down. Leave it off the gas and keep pulling up on the release valve on the keg every couple hours and eventually the built-up co2 will dissipate.

Only one side of manifold seems to be open?

So, I recently bought this setup: http://kegcowboy.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=138 It's pretty standard. 5# bottle, single regulator, two-way manifold (with check valves). However, only one side of the manifold is producing any pressure. The other side seems like it's...
