I love IPA's, IIPA's, 2X IPA, etc (drinking one now). I just don't think they're the only styles worthy of high praise. Try them ALL is the point I'm trying to make.

If you have a 1 gallon growler/carboy and some DME, you're ready to make a yeast starter. You put so much effort into your brew day, why not go one step further and make sure you have lots of healthy yeast? Not to say that dry packets or vials won't work, but the benefits of making a starter...
Not sure if you're using one or not but this is a good time to mention the importance of a yeast starter. If you haven't used them before I suggest looking into making one for every batch you brew. Not only will this ensure that you are pitching a lot of good healthy yeast, but it should also...
Hate to say it, but you should dump this one. Everyone here has had to dump a batch, you just got yours out of the way on the first try (I dumped my first one too). Just put it behind you and start working on your next batch.

Perhaps a BJCP judge could tell you best, but considering your hop profile it almost certainly excludes many styles other than the pale ales. If I had to guess I'd say an APA.

"The French have their wines, the Belgians have their beer." I love Belgians and their complexities, though I suppose they're not for everyone. For my taste, there are but few beers that are as well-crafted as a good Trappiste Ale.
I think it depends on what your palate has become most...
Ok thanks, on another note does anyone have any experience brewing 5 gal batches in converted keg mash tuns? I suspect that this may be the cause for my lower strike temp since there is so much surface area exposed of the grain bed, therefore the temperature dissipates more quickly. Looking...
So I just added my strike water and aimed for mashing in at 150 deg F, however my temp reading was 140. I quickly brought 1 gal to a boil and added to my mash and this brought it back to 150. My concern is that my grist ratio is now off. My recipe is calculated for 1.5 ratio. This is a...
You'd rack this into your secondary first, no? Then you'd let it sit for a week or two before bottling?
I'd say watch your airlock over the next day or two and if you'd don't see any activity, then it's time to rack. But just because you can't see the krausen bubbling doesn't mean it's...
Did you reach your target gravity? If not I would start there and troubleshoot. I've had my first few batches end up lighter in body than I preferred and it was due to not getting good efficiency out of my mash. Were you able to sustain your temperature for the duration of the mash?
I assume...
Sorry if this question has been re-hashed, but I'm in the process of constructing my HERMS and I have been considering welding a valve to the bottom of my mash tun. To me it seems like a great way to increase efficiency but I've heard that it might be prone to clogs. Does anyone have input...
