    What a (nearly) disasterous brewday

6 weeks ago today was my last brew day, rather disastrous as well. Just had surgery on my knee yesterday after tearing my meniscus on the brew day. I mad a bad step around my boil kettle, and pop, knee down. I finished the brew day, and the beer turned out good. I will guess that batch will cost...

    tiny switch for chugger pump

Well, it is good to 5A with 120V, so I would thing you should be just fine with your application. That (quick calculation in my head) is 2.5 times the rated current for the switch which seems pretty safe to me.

6.5 gallon corny keg - an affordable stainless fermenter, FINALLY!

Well, I've fermented 6 or 7 batches in my 6.5 gallon corny kegs from williams brewing. I like not using glass, and I like the lack of light, even though I am using a converted perlick kegerator as a fermentation chamber, so there is little light exposure anyway. If you are talking about 5 gallon...

    Keezer cycle time

I should have mentioned, I have the probe inside the putty about 12 inches off the bottom of the keezer in a pipe, and its in the middle of the kegs, away from the walls. So, its really meant to represent the middle of the keezer. I also have a fan circulating in there, so the there aren't...

    Keezer cycle time

I bought a 14oz. tub of plumber putty, and put the temp probe in the middle of the putty. It's a good small thermal mass, and its not liquid so it doesn't spill. My keezer runs for probably 20 minutes every 1 1/2 hours. Now, I know thats not super efficient, but I have 4 taps 5 feet from the...

EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling DSPR110

I had thought about this approach. It won't be totally ruled out in my build. I went ahead and purchased 2 ezboil 120. One will be to control temp in the HLT, the other is really to just measure temp in MT, but its for future proofing if I want to go full electric in the future. Well, I can use...

beer sort-of for sale. Is this legal?

I didn't read every response, so I appologize if someone already said this, but when was the last time you were at a party with live music in the backyard and the cops came and asked where the beer came from. I honestly don't even think that regulating where the beer came from and if they had...

Keg cleaning frequency - how often for a full breakdown?

I break down after every batch. The most likely place you are going to get retained materials which could breed bacteria is going to be in the posts, springs or dip tubes. I rinse with water, use a brush to clean out all large material, then soak in oxyclean free, give a quick final scrub (all...

EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling DSPR110

Thanks for the feedback, that was my thought, I just wondered if anyone had experience. I manually control my system now, but it's difficult to keep a steady temp in HLT with gas. I know my system well otherwise, if HLT is 3-4 degrees above mlt and i have a decent recirculation flow, I should...

EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling DSPR110

Anybody use this in a HERMS setup? My plan is this: propane for bringing mash tun and HLT up to or close to temp, then use 120v element in HLT to fine regulate temp while using continuous recirculation. I am wondering how responsive this controller is in this situation when the temp is measured...

6.5 gallon corny keg - an affordable stainless fermenter, FINALLY!

I purchaced 1 from Williams, and when it came I could not get it to seal. It was obvious that the opening was poorly machined and appeared warped. I called them, and their customer service was excellent. They quickly sent me out a thicker O ring made for difficult lid situations. I got it 2 days...

    Keg not carbonating.

Put a black beverage ball lock connector on the gas line and put the CO2 on the "out" side of the keg for 24 hours, so the CO2 is bubbling through the beer instead of trying to dissolve it into the beer in the headspace. I started doing that, and it carbonates much more effectively initially...

6.5 gallon corny keg - an affordable stainless fermenter, FINALLY!

Since it's been a while from the original post, I was wondering how your experience continues to be? I am very interested in going this route.
