    Another Fermentation build/question

Hey Guys, I've been wanting to tackle making a large fermentation chamber for a while now and since I've got 4 weeks of holidays coming up in June I think its about time to start. For starters I have a clone of Kals system from www.theelectricbrewery.com except I've got 30 gal pots...

Power outage, mash at 140F for 1hr30min???

Hey Guys, So I'm just wanting to hear some opinions on how you guys think this beer would of turned out if I had finished it. I've got an electric system and today I found out one of the downsides of having it. When the power goes out your screwed! I had literally just dumped my grain in...

    SS plumbing

@ Nightshade. No I haven't moved ahead with this yet. I'm not in any hurry to do this project. I'd like to do it properly and am still researching and pricing everything. I've looked at doing tri clamp fittings. I can get them in tri clamp/NPT but that kinda defeats the purpose of eliminating...

    SS plumbing

@crosamich. SilverX is right, the best place to start would be going through www.theelectricbrewery.com. Kal has done an excellent job of building that website and laying it out in a way that's easy to understand. In the FAQ he has a breakdown of the costs to build his system. I was on the...

    SS plumbing

Hi guys, I wanted to ask a quick questions out before I move ahead with this plan. I have kals electric brewery setup (www.theelectricbrewery.com) and would like to hard pipe everything. I've used the silicon hoses and camlocks (he uses quickconnects) and have found them to be one of the...

Do you dry hop in the primary or the secondary?

I noticed while reading this thread that those who dry hop in the secondary do it mostly cause they want to save the yeast. A suggestion and something I've just started doing is top cropping to save the yeast. Its actually really easy and you get the best viable yeast you can. Once this is done...

    what is this?!?!?!

That sucks. It wasn't a cheap beer to make. I'm more than willing to let it sit. If I let it sit for 6 -12 months does that reduce the off flavours of the infection. This is my first one after probably 30 batches so I'm not to bummed but still sucks.

    what is this?!?!?!

Ok guys. So I'm wondering if any of u know what this is. I'm thinking it might be some kind of infection but I'm not sure. Nothing out of the ordinary with this one really. Its sierra nevada rye ipa. I dry hopped it in the primary (I don't usually do that but this time I thought I'd try) I've...

tri clover sight glass on HERMS build

Hi Guys, I'm currently building an electric HERMS brewery. I've seen people put an in line sight glasses on their systems like this: http://www.brewershardware.com/TC10SG.html I'm trying to figure out what the benefits would be for me to add one. I'm thinking that one use I can see is on...

Low FG on last 3 beers???

Hey Guys, So I'm a bit confused why lately I've been having such low FG on my beers. I'll give as many details as I can to help determine whats going on. I've been reading the book "Yeast" by Jamil Zainasheff so I've been really working on getting large cell count on my yeast and fast...

yeast starter from canned all grain wort

Hi guys, So last week i finally did something I've wanted to do for a while. I pressure canned a bunch of wort for yeast starters. I did about 8lbs of 2 row and was aiming for wort around 1.050. Hit my target and then put them into 1 qt canning jars. Then i pressure canned them without a...

Hey Guys, I got a quick question about a recent brew I made. Last week I did a french siason. It was a recipe I found at the local homebrew store. The recipe is this. 12 lbs 2 row 0.5 lbs Munich malt 0.75lbs wheat malt 0.25lbs Brown malt 12.5 AAU perle - 60min 1.6 oz sterling - 15...

    brewday confusion.

So I had a brew day yesterday and brewed an IPA I've done before that I've had success with and turned out very tasty. Some interesting things happened yesterday that still have me a little confused as to what happened and what caused it. I was using a large grain bill with 15.65lbs of grain...

Taking an accurate temp reading on MT?

Awesome, thanks for the comments guys. The more I read what you were all saying the more it made sense. Without a system like a RIMS/HERMS that is monitored and heated with PIDs or some other sensor getting to a consistant single degree is always going to be difficult to verify. I use a Pot for...
