Stir during lautering - mash in bag/cooler

Then why do people that recirculate say they get better extraction?

Stir during lautering - mash in bag/cooler

We need Brulosophy to do an experiment

    First BIAB Brown Ale

Another option is to mash with a smaller volume of water but when it comes time to boil just top up with enough water for a full boil. I've done that on large grain bills.

Stir during lautering - mash in bag/cooler

I use a sous vide heater both in a pot and cooler. I think the circulation helps quite a bit with efficiency

    Sous Vide BIAB

Any of these electric brewing systems can do sous vide https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=619308&page=1

    Sous Vide BIAB

Hey that's cool. I never thought about a double boiler, but with the Anova I would think it could keep up with temperatures of an uninsulated pot. I routinely do mine in an 8 gallon SS kettle without insulation and don't have any trouble keep up the temperatures.

    Sous Vide BIAB

I wish I could lobby anova to change the device to allow for a longer drop into liquid. Not sure what that would look like and also allow a larger gap for the screw on holder. Some coolers are thicker than the gap allows. I agree on the step mash thing. I just do a mash around 150 most of the...

    Sous Vide BIAB

    1. I have seen some people use a hop spider if you can't get the heater into the liquid. Just plop it in there without attaching it to anything. Most hop spiders are much deeper than the Anova. 2. When I've done BIAB/Sous Vide and just stick the heater in the liquid in the bag I've never had...

    Keggle BIAB

Other than the opening problem discussed above is if you are going to go to 10 gallon batches in a Keggle, that much grain is very hard to lift out without a winch.

    Sous Vide BIAB

I have have completely switched to a sous vide + BIAB or Full Volume mash (depending on grain bill and me buying a larger pot). It's pretty effortless and I don't know why anyone wouldn't give it a shot if they have the sous vide equipment already. I'm a lazy brewer so what I don't want to...

How to Malt at Home: An In-Depth Guide

I'm waiting for things to cool off a bit before I try malting again. I have 40lbs of wheat I'm going to try.

    Happiness is: Home malting

I know I was late to the party this year, but in my garden bed I'm starting to see stalks of barley with heads forming so I'm fairly confident I'll get a tiny crop! It will go with my tiny crop of hops! I might do a BIAB 1 gallon batch with all home grown ingredients. I never did track down a...

How to Malt at Home: An In-Depth Guide

There was a very extensive home malting post here at HBT front page recently if you haven't seen it. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/adventures-home-malting.html

    Happiness is: Home malting

Minor update... After about 4 attempts I think I took care of my rat problem. I put out rat poison next to the garden bed. Rats ate it. Did it again just to make sure. Planted barley and this time no digging or eating the young shoots. I still have about three dry months in front of me so I...
