    Cold IPA

I think the whole idea of a Cold IPA is that the malt and the yeast stay out of the way of the hops. That is why there is pilsner malt with lots of tasteless adjuncts added and a lager yeast that is clean. Then the hops alone are allowed to shine. I just tried a Fieldwork Cold IPA last night and...

    Extract brut IPA

I tried a Brut IPA made with Pilsner LME (from MoreBeer) that turned out quite good, but did not have the FG that I was expecting. It finished at 1.005, and I was expecting closer to 1.000. I used WhiteLabs UltaFerm in the fermenter at pitch. I looked at the MoreBeer website and found that the...

Has anyone tried brewing a Brut IPL? I was thinking of this but I have not tried it yet.

Hops in French Press for DryHopping

MattyHBT- I might try to add a little clean tasting spirits if my hop flavor or aroma is lacking, would be a good experiment. Azura- sound advice that I will try if it seems that the hops don't present themselves in the cold water steep, also would be a good experiment. I will try both these...

Hops in French Press for DryHopping

Good point Smellyglove. I was only planning on doing an ounce to give a little hop flavor and aroma to a Golden ale that I am about to keg, but I can imagine that there is a point where it would be very inefficient.

Yeast nutrient? Energizer? Fermaid? Goferm? DAP?

I use Wyeast Beer Nutrient just to make sure my beasties have all the things they need to have a party in my brew, Happy yeast = Good beer. That being said most things that I have read state that malt has all the nutrients that beer yeast need, so unless you are using huge amounts of adjuncts I...

Hops in French Press for DryHopping

Anyone have any experience or advice for using a French press to dry hop? I want to keep the hops out of my keg as the seem to mess with the post seals. I have pellet and the make a mess. I was thinking of using the press at room temp for a couple of days then pour clear hop tea into keg.

    2015 Hops

I just got them. You think that they would readjust the levels? I thought that they would do that at picking or packaging.

    2015 Hops

Should I make adjustments to AA for older hops? I just got a great deal on Magnum hops from Hopsdirect but they are from 2015 (only $5.00 per pound). I plan on only using them for bittering in the boil and wonder if I should adjust amounts for lower AA or if that is not advised.

    Off Flavor after Dry Hopping?

It is because if you don't purge the 5 gal with CO2 before you transfer it, you will have 2.5+ gal of empty space that has O2 in it, thus oxidation of the beer.

    AB acquired Wicked Weed

As sad as it is, at least Lagunitas went to heineken and not Inbev...as sad as it is.
