    New England IPA Help

Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions. This recipe was suppose to have come from a contact of the brewer, You know the internet is always right. I plan to share the results on this thread. My brew date is 10-26-19. Also, I left one ingredient , 3 ml Hop Shot during the last 15...

    New England IPA Help

I'm trying to come up with a good recipe for a NE-IPA, like Suh Bruh by Old Nation. This style has become very popular but I have not found a lot of recipes from reliable sources. Right now my best shot for a 5G batch is: 1 # Rice Hulls 12 # Pilsner 1 # Cara-Pils/Dex 1 # Oats, Flaked 1 #...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

This brew requires a good memory and notes. I'm 10 days from the 50.0 F rest period. Will keg on 6/27/17. My last gravity was 1.012 as documented by other brewers on this thread. It's nice to see the measurements and steps in line with others. Just to recap, primary 12 days 65.0F to 82.0F, 8...

Westy 12 (brew 4-28-17) update - Found a hair crack in my hydrometer %$#*. I think my OG of 1.093 was correct as I also did a Plato check of 22.2 before 1st pitch. Glad I always do both reads on OG. 5/14/17, day 16 - @ 70.8F with SG 1.014 (corrected 1.015) still in primary. Looks like...

Where to start with a PLC controlled brewery?

Visual on liquid level using a graduated sight gauge on my HLT. My system is a 24 VDC system. I did considered automating 6 to 8 valves and finding an accurate way to measure volume with flow rates, but the project became too expensive for me, a retired computer engineer. In the winter of...

Where to start with a PLC controlled brewery?

On/Off is the primary control Process, for temperature maintenance. But, it also. 1. calculate mash water volume based on grain weight & Grain to water ratio. 2. calculate strike temperature based on ambient temperature and the grain and water factors. 3. keeps time and sets temperature for...

Where to start with a PLC controlled brewery?

I'm new to home brew talk, but saw this post and thought an attached photo of my HERMs / PLC system might provide a starting point.

    RO Water Bicarbonate Addition?

    I want to ask about my water properties in a general way. My water is Ca 76 -- Mg 32 -- Na 17 -- Cl 37 -- SO4 30 -- HCO 302 & PH 7.8 If I add lactic acid - 7 ml to mash and 9 ml to sparge I get a PH of 5.42. My new profile is; Ca 76 -- Mg 32 -- Na 17 -- Cl 37 -- SO4 30 -- HCO 45 & PH 5.42 My...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

I did go back and read CSI & Bottoms Up notes. The notes recommended secondary when primary reached 1.013 to slow fermentation as the target was 1.012. Maybe if the SG was high like 18 or 20 not transferring to secondary would be a good path. I think I will do a secondary as my SG of 1.013 (4...

No, there was a link I found for Weasty 12 using a White lab 530 starter pitch on day one, then Wyeast 3787 starter pitch on day 3. The starters were 32 oz water + 1/2 cup DME on a stir plate for 18 hrs. Then turn off stir plate and let settle for 6 hrs. Pour off 80% of clear wort, then mix &...

Well, not far enough to report any results, other that 1.093 OG and 85% efficiency. I still use Pro-Mash and always get an OG forecast 5 to 10 points higher than actual. Thanks for the blow off tube suggestion, fermentation is extremely active, an air lock would be a disaster.
