Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

I see a lot of people saying that they didn’t use the honey. Did you supplement something in its place? Leaving out that much sugar would certainly effect the finished product right?

    Post your infection

Hard to tell, I'm looking at the right side. The beer was a pumpkin beer and looks a little cloudy from the pumpkin, only shot I could get was down the neck of the better bottle. What do you guys think? Also if it is an infection, it's still okay to drink as long as it tastes okay, right?

    Post your infection

Been in primary for about two weeks, but has looked exactly like this for the past few days. Doesn't really look infected, but I figured I'd throw it up and let you guys take a look. Is it okay to just mix it around when moving to the bottling bucket?

First time brewing - Brooklyn Brew Kit

I usually just tie the bags off to the side of the pot so they don't sink all the way to the bottom.

Is my boiling setup too meager?

I tried to do one batch on the stove and then bought an SQ14 pretty much the next day. The time it took to get the water to boil on the stove just wasn't worth it and it just wasn't possible to get a rolling boil. It was boiling, but looked more like a simmer. Everyone seems to rave about the...

Well that did not work well.. Ideas why?

From this it's sounds like you weren't using any type of temperature control and just had your fermenter in a room, where the temp was 72 degrees? Any idea what the temp of the batch was? If the room temp was 72, your batch was probably quite a bit higher than that. Outside temp does not equal...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

When I plug the extract recipe from the first page into Beersmith, the IBU's are coming up at around 7 as opposed to the 12-14 that the front page is listing. I know the recipe is pretty straight foreward and only calls for .75oz of hops, but I feel like it should be up higher than 7, and can't...

Brew kits and 1 or 5/6 gallon carboys?

As someone else who started recently, I would suggest going with 6 gallon fermenter and doing some 5 gallon recipes. If you want to experiment with smaller batches, all you need at that point is buy a 1 gallon fermenter(about 5 bucks) and you can use all your 5 gallon equipment and just make...

    Northern brewer

I found that a little odd as well. Seems like it would be common practice to send you your complete order. I recently had an order from morebeer where some DME had been ripped open during shipping. They said they would replace it and shipped it out the following day. While they were nice and...

    72 Hours later...

Sounds good. Thanks for the input.

    72 Hours later...

So I brewed a 5 gallon batch about 72 hours ago. For the first 48 hours or so, the airlock showed no signs of activity, not a single bubble. Around 48 hours, there was very weak, very minor bubbling for about 15 minutes or so, then nothing since then. I know that airlock activity doesn't need to...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

So if I scale the recipe down to 5 gallons, I would end up with about 4 gallons of beer? I'm still pretty new to brewing so for me 5 gallon batches just seem easier, I'm okay if I only end up with 4 gallons to bottle, so long as the 4 gallons taste good. I'm fermenting in a 6 gallon better...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm going to scale it down to a 5 gallon from the 6 gallon recipe on the first page, but other than that I plan on following the exact recipe.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Is the extract version on the first page, just extract or is it partial mash? I'm just curious because I've heard that simply steeping Wheat Flaked isn't the best thing(not sure why, I'm still pretty new to this). Also 6.5 pounds of DME seems a little light for 6 gallon batch(again, sorry if...

    Lost some extract

Alright thanks for the input. I brewed tonight so we shall see how it turns out. They actually just packed the bag loose in a box with some other stuff including a metal spoon, which I'm guessing is what punctured the bag.
