Advice on beefing up a kit?

I'm a total noob myself, but I think every NB kit seems to say to use the secondary if you have one, but just to keep it in the primary for another week if you don't.

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

It worked really well. Based on my vast experience of one use [emoji13] I'll say that all you really need is the copper tubing, the vinyl tubing, two clamps, a submersible pump, and a big tub of ice water. I'm not a real handy guy, but I was able to get this working without a hitch. It's nice to...

First DIY Project - Immersion Chiller

Thanks for posting this. I used this as a guide for my new DIY chiller. Used the copper tubing, vinyl tubing, and hose clamps. Added a submersible pump that I throw in a bucket of ice water and it worked like a charm. [emoji106]🏻

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

Just want to check in to thank you for this thread. I brewed Hooter's Simple Hefeweizen recipe on Sunday. It was my first time brewing with ingredients from my LHBS and using my DIY wort chiller. I had no visible signs of fermentation Sunday night or Monday. I was getting freaked out by Monday...

    A Good Beginner Homebrewer Day

Today was a fun day in my early homebrewing career. I started off sanitizing my turkey baster and taking a sample of the Saison I've got fermenting (my second batch) so that I could test the gravity (always nice to sample some beer at 10:30 in the morning - tasted nice, even the wife thought it...

First Batch Seems to be Progressing Nicely

Tonight I tried a bottle that had been in the fridge for 24 hours. The foam stayed in the bottle when I cracked it open and there was a perfect thick head when I poured it into the glass. The beer smells and tastes great! [emoji3] Now, I've just got to stop drinking them, so they can keep...

First Batch Seems to be Progressing Nicely

Tried another bottle tonight. A bit of a gushed when I opened it, but not too bad. Poured it into a glass. Had a nice 1" head. No longer had that fizzy carbonation. Tasted good! Really happy with the results!

Full Boil - Does Anyone Do this?

A lot of great info here. Having only brewed two NB extract kits myself, I was thinking about getting away from the "partial boil", but I have one more NB extract kit in the house. It seems like I can go ahead and make that kit with a full boil, just by starting with about 6 gallons of water...

First Batch Seems to be Progressing Nicely

Thanks for the advice! I guess I was just afraid of the dreaded over-carbed bottles!:o

First Batch Seems to be Progressing Nicely

Couldn't seem to upload these pics from my phone. Here are a few pics of the beer in the bottle and in a glass.

First Batch Seems to be Progressing Nicely

I must be the proverbial blind squirrel. My wife bought me a northern Brewer setup for Father's Day with a Caribou Slobber extract kit. I read some stuff online, but did not find HBT and the wealth of information available here. I went ahead and brewed up my first batch a few weeks ago...

    Wet shaving thread.

I mix it up every day. Straights, DEs, SEs. Whatever strikes my fancy when I wake up in the morning. Keeps things interesting.
