    Brewers Hardware????

I finally cancelled my order after they strung me along for almost a month with "it'll be in stock next week". He did give me a prompt refund. The two main problem are: lists items that are not in stock immediately charges your credit card I recommend going elsewhere.... Michael

    BJCP bottle fill level

Ideally yes, points should never be deducted for high or low fill. In practice however, that's not always the case. As there is no judging oversight, judges are essentially able to assign scores and give or take points as they see fit. I've had several scoresheets over the last few years that...

    Brewers Hardware????

I'd be wary of this vendor. Actually, I'd recommend ordering elsewhere if at all possible. I ordered $170 worth of probes, and M8 connectors on 1/25/2012. None were listed as back-ordered or were custom in any way. My credit card was charged immediately on 1/25. I emailed them a week later...

    residual alkilinty / mash ph

At this point, Palmer's "guidelines" and nomograph are largely dismissed by most expert brewers. The correlation between RA and SRM exists, but Palmer's numbers are way off. IMHO you shouldn't be attempting to adjust your mash without a PH meter. There's a water primer you should read...

BJCP Help Please - Using Alcohol in 22C

Judging isn't based on process; it's all about what's in the glass. So you shouldn't get comments about the process you used to create the beer. (less experienced judges often write things like "if you used oak cubes, next time do xxxx, but judges should never make assumptions about how the...

BJCP needs to revise Dubbel entry

I think you're taking this way to personally. However, I still maintain that if you take off more than 1 point out of 3 for a category that contains multiple attributes, that's not right. But, do what you want.... Michael

BJCP needs to revise Dubbel entry

If you lose a "few points" for color, the judge is incompetent. It happens all the time, but it certainly shouldn't. The scoresheet allows three points for appearance, which includes color, clarity and head. At most, color is worth one point, period. If you get a pitch black beer that looks like...

    No-Sparge Brewing and BYO

Yes, and it's the method as explained in the November BYO. You're correct though, past thinking was that thin mashes would negatively affect the beer. Current thought and experiments (not too mention the thousands of BIAB batches) have largely dismissed this notion, or at least greatly...

    No-Sparge Brewing and BYO

Historically "no-sparge" referred to the method of mashing at traditional ratios with only a portion of the entire boil volume, draining the mash tun, and topping up the BK to the appropriate volume. Thus, a large percentage of the water *never* touches the grain. However, this is an antiquated...
