    Lagering with fruit

Hello all, I have a 5 gallon “Kölsch” in primary that I was hoping to rack onto strawberries. I do plan on lagering this beer for two weeks and have heard conflicting theories on best practice for strawberry additions. My original plan was 2 weeks primary, 2 weeks on 8 lbs strawberries, 2...

    Assisting carbonation

Hey everyone, Bottled my wheat beer about 11 days ago. From what I understand, two weeks should be enough to carbonate. In a few days i plan on putting the bottles in the fridge for about two days. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to ensuring optimum carbonation (i.e. shaking the...

    Metallic smell

Hey guys, Trying to use my new ballington brewpot I got online. As I begin boiling the water, I notice a metallic scent coming from inside the pot. Should I be worried? I've cleaned it several times and it still produces this smell. I know one step can smell kind of weird but I don't think...

    Frozen yeast?

Howdy guys, Forgive me if this sounds ridiculous, but I have some concerns with my wyeast. I needed to transport it out of town (4 hours) so I placed it in a small ice chest surrounded by a few zip lock bags of ice. I don't imagine that this would be enough to freeze the yeast, but as I was...

    Steep temp

Howdy guys, Getting back into brewing and this recipe calls for aromatic malt, and flaked oats to be steeped at 170 for 30 minutes. From what I remember, isn't that temp too high? I know its too high for mashing, but is 170 Acceptable for steeping? Thanks!

    Dumping bad beer

Howdy guys, I have a keg of beer (turned out bad) I brewed about ten months ago. I've been out of town since then and I just got back to it. I need to dump it to clean and sanitize the keg. Is it safer to dump in down the drain or out in the lawn? Thanks in advance!

    Oily mash runoff

if it is oil from the pot, what is the best course of action in cleaning the pot and keg? basically, is the equipment reusable? or should i acquire new pot and keg? (btw, im aware how ridiculous this sounds, but confirmation never hurts) thanks!

    Oily mash runoff

Not really, my keg is back home. I am out of town. I have no problem dumping the batch. I'd just hate to have to buy a new keg and kettle due to "contamination". So basically, if it is oil, can I clean the equipment to be safe for a future batch?
