With 12oz of pellets in a hopstand doesn't that create a ridiculous amount of trub? I already lose enough wort with 1/3 that amount of hops. How much do you lose doing this? or do you have a method for dealing with that amount of hop particulate? Thanks!
I ended up with an abv of about 6% 1.054 OG 1.008 FG (after 2 weeks in primary) I sprinkled in an additional cup of Light DME and used the Trappist HG yeast. In addition to the orange peel and coriander, I also threw in 2oz of citra hops toward the end of the boil because they smell so damn good...
I want to brew something similar to Elysian's Idiot Sauvin IPA, which features Nelson Sauvin hops, but I want to play with the hops a little in a split batch.

Did you soak the nibs in vodka or anything before racking on top of them? How long has it been on the nibs? Are they in some sort of bag (is that what I see in there)?
I always end up with some sort of oil slick when I use nibs. However, like the above says if it starts to look more white and...

Is it a normal thing to see a high krausen rise then fall (albeit not completely) then rise again higher than the first time?

Question: I seem to run into the problem of soft and runny yeast cakes which can make racking a bit more tedious. I've seen some people with cakes so tight you could bounce a quarter off them:cool:. They just rest their racking cane or siphon right on top of the trub and if I did that it would...
So don't worry about getting some cloudiness in the bottling bucket and go ahead and suck up those last few pints and then when it comes to cracking the beers open just pour carefully?
