    National Homebrew Competition 2019

The communication from the AHA around this event is always less than ideal. It would be nice if they could give out location specific updates so the contestants wouldn't have to refresh their emails for days on end expecting to see results. Delays happen but it is the not knowing why or when...

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

I am wondering same thing. MN region has had an online status of "verifying results" since last Tuesday the 26th. However, I only got an email saying my entries had been judged 2 days ago. Maybe they had to judge a few the following weekend and thus are taking longer to get the results up? Just...

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

yeah I would rebrew most styles. 2 years ago, my IPA got 3rd in the region and my amber lager got first. I rebrewed the IPA and it placed first in the nation and I did not rebrew the lager, thinking a lager would age better, however the lager did not place at all in the finals. Good luck to...

    National Homebrew Competition 2019

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I never realized all that went into getting the scores posted after judging was complete.

does anyone know why the verification process takes so long after the entries are judged? I know they are working their butt off, but just always wondered why it can take up to ten days to get the results posted.

Adding hops to full secondary question

I would remove some of the beer with a turkey baster or siphon. The hops will not sink immediately so you will have issues with one inch of space

    IPA recipe - thoughts?

Mash below 150. Dont waste bittering hops on simcoe and citra, they deserve better. Buy an ounce each of 12 different hop varieties. Add them all in the last ten minutes with a 15 minute whirlpool. Double the rye malt drop the crystal. Yeast is good.

    Rye IPA experiment

I brewed an amber with 28% rye and it won first place as a an alternative grain beer with a score of 44 in a competition. So don't be afraid to get aggressive with rye.

    Rye IPA experiment

it will be the opposite of thin with all that crystal and dextrin. that much rye in an ipa should be good. ive done 3.5 lbs before and it was very noticeable, but good. 2.5 should get you a better balance. also I would do a lot more late hops but im a hop head

    Gigayeast golden gate lager

Does anyone have any experience with this yeast? I opened the bag to pitch the yeast and was greeted with a powerful sour smell that I have never experienced before. I've never used a lager yeast or this yeast in particular so I am not sure what it should smell like but it did not seem normal. I...
