Frankilin's Brewpub in Hyattsville is relatively close to downtown Silver Spring, it's a suggestion. Churchkey (Birch and Barley) in DC is excellent, but hard to easily get to without a several block walk from McPherson Square or U Street metros.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I just met a microbiologist at Marx Cafe in D.C. who seems uber-hard core into the scene, has a yeast collection that made me drool, he offered me any yeast he had in his library, what should I ask for for my next batch?
I just started my first batch with a Belgian-style two Sundays back after a similar hiatus. Sounds like you have greater plans already to upgrade your gear, than I do.
