I just received a 6.5 gal keg to use as a fermenter and had this duh moment ... how am I going to determine how much wort I actually transferred from the boil kettle? Visibility is limited so ... some sort of stick? weight? Those of you that use kegs how do you determine your volume?

So has anyone tried any of the oxygen mitigation methods with these systems? Pre boil, mash cap etc? I'm not a strict lodo person by any means but I have implemented some of the methods on my 3 vessel system and feel that they have helped improve my beer (completely anecdotal). I'm looking at...

If you want to add to the work around ... cut a piece of wire (coat hanger comes to mind), bend it to the curve you need and cut it so that it fits between the QD and the fitting pushing it to the desired angle. Should stay in place on it's own but you could tape it if necessary.

RPh Guy, do you mind sharing what proportions of each you are using? I am assuming that the sodium percarbonate is Oxi and that metasilicate is TSP, am I correct? Jet Dry is a liquid, or is there dry available? Thanks

I'm looking to implement some of the steps to lower oxygen in my brewing and thinking about the mash cap. I have a rectangular cooler with a bag, what are some of the suggestions for capping? Things to use, not to use, avoid? For my brew tomorrow I'm limited to what I have on hand like tin foil...

Running it all into the larger pot makes the most sense to me as well right now. I may try using a tee when I get my pump up and running. Having no real understanding of fluid dynamics I have learned that when splitting batches going into two fermentors that if I keep the tee level and the hoses...

I have 2 boil kettles now and want to start doing split batches. I'm hoping to do a 6gal batch split into 2 3gal carboys. I mash in a cooler and batch sparge and have an 8 and a 10gal kettle. I'm curious the different methods people use to be sure that the first and second runnings are properly...

Something that I noticed when I did a tour of Whitelabs is that they use tinfoil but that it goes at least 2/3 of the way down the flask. I haven't had problems just having it around the neck but it has me wondering if there is added protection running it further down.

Could you vent through the gas side with a long tube until beer shows, stop the transfer and then switch to a shorter tube before putting it on gas? Or would the process of changing it out allow too much O2 in?
