Bad results with PB2 and Vodka. Anyone try pasteurizing?

    1) PB2 has sugar in it as an ingredient. There are other powdered peanut butters that do not--however, this is still a bad, bad idea. You need more than a couple of small jars (2 lbs was adequate for me) and you can easily buy 1lb or 2lb bulk powdered pb online. 2) you definitely want to...

Bad results with PB2 and Vodka. Anyone try pasteurizing?

I appreciate your response, but I mention in the title and original post that I was brewing with PB2. Don't feel like de-fatting peanuts myself. My question has to do with the best way to sterilize the bugs on PB 2 prior to adding it to the secondary. Seemed to take WAAAAAAAYYY to much vodka...

Bad results with PB2 and Vodka. Anyone try pasteurizing?

I brewed a PB & Jelly sandwich beer that had a bready base of Golden Promise malt. It seemed to take waaaaaay to much vodka to get the PB2 to mix properly. I added it to the secondary and the vodka was definitely present. I only want to add this to secondary in order to maximize flavor so...

    Citra IPA

People will disagree to no end, but FWH, whenever tested side by side in brewing experiments seems to impart more bitterness and is more harsh (and has more measured IBUs). This makes perfect logical sense to me as you're boiling the hops longer, presuming a 90 minute boil vs a normal 60 min...

    Flaked Wheat in porter?

Black Butte Porter uses 10% white wheat. If there is a better porter out there, please let me know... https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f126/black-butte-porter-145879/

External CO2 Bulkhead Question For Keezer

Will do--hope my existing Oetiker clamps will fit.

External CO2 Bulkhead Question For Keezer

This is awesome, thanks a ton! Incidentally, I went to Lowes and they didn't have a 3" Nipple--biggest 3/8 Nipple was 2.5". So for anyone else looking for this at a big box store, Home Depot may be your best bet.

External CO2 Bulkhead Question For Keezer

Ok, so if I run to home depot I would need? Watts 3/8 in. x 3 in. Lead-Free Brass Pipe Nipple Any way you could link the other parts from the Home Depot website? Is that a 90 degree female elbow attached to the nipple? Do you have 5/16 ID Tubing?

External CO2 Bulkhead Question For Keezer

Your build is one of the posts that I've been studying. It looks like you have some cool push connects and I love the quick disconnects. That said, I don't have an extra beer shank to spare. Is your gas tubing 5/16 ID by any chance (it looks thinner)? I would like to do something similar...

External CO2 Bulkhead Question For Keezer

I think I need to run a bulkhead through my Keezer collar in order to get gas from the externally mounted primary regulator/co2 tank into the interior. I have a dual hinged keezer and need to get co2 through the collar. The collar is 1x8 pine which puts its actual thickness at .75" (pretty...

Mash pH with steeping and cold-steeping dark grains.

It's BIAB so I don't sparge. Like I said, when I don't use dark grains I just add a bit of lactic acid (about 5 ml to 10 gallons of water for a 6 gallon batch). I realize that dialing in a proper pH with dark grains reduces tannin extraction, and realize that tannins are mostly a product...

Mash pH with steeping and cold-steeping dark grains.

I'm looking for advice for a few scenarios for a Russian Imperial Stout. I live in San Diego and have fairly hard water with high residual alkalinity. I'm looking to reduce astringency. I brew BIAB but this isn't really BIAB specific. Scenario 1: Cold Steep Dark Grains and Add to...

Can "La Fin Du Monde" 12 oz bottles be used for bottling high CO2 Belgians?

These Unibroue beers are pretty ubiquitous now--and they're fairly cheap and quite tasty. I'm wondering if the 12oz versions are ok for the higher carb levels needed in a Belgian ale. They don't feel super thick (nor do they look funny) like a 330ml Duvel. They also come in a corked 750ml...

Belgian Golden Strong Ale Pink Elephant (Delirium Tremens clone)

I brewed this over the weekend with adjustments to get 6 gallons post boil (BIAB) and ended up with 5.75 gallons transferred into the no-chill cube. I was withholding the table sugar for the fermenter and still managed to hit 1.075 OG post boil (sugarless). The scaled recipe calls for 2.3lbs...

Belgian Tripel Belgian Trippel (2006 World Beer Cup Gold Medal: Dragonmead Final Absolution clone)

Doing the all grain version of this tomorrow. I have a question about the hops. The all grain recipe posted earlier in the thread (for a 5 gallon batch) lists whole hops. Normally I would make an adjustment when using pellets by cutting back hops by 10-15%. However, it could be that whomever...
