Colorado Front range: have you harvested your hops yet?

I start a little early in all honesty. I can only do 20oz wet at a time with my dehydrator and it takes me about a day or two. I dehydrate at 95 for 6 hours. Lay the trays out and let them just sit in the garage for 24 hours. Then back in for another 6 at 95 then bag them. Gets em down to about...

    Rhizomes

Ok that's actually good. Some of them broke off as i was pulling them out of the ground. Hoping they don't take off because some may have made it under the fence

    Rhizomes

Ok. I'll give it a shot. They just seemed a little young to me. By don't have the woody feeling, they are more soft and mushy.

    Rhizomes

Hello I dug up these rhizomes from my 2 year old chinook plant today. Do you think these would grow? I dont see any sprouts or anything on them. The are about 6" long, but came from a section about 6 feet long. They are about the diameter of a pencil. I would like to give them away at my...

    Too cold for wort chiller?

Good idea. I may have an old one from my boat If I can find the right fittings. Just hook it up to a 12v battery

    Too cold for wort chiller?

I definetly have the long bibs like shown above. I'm just paranoid, I just finished my basement and don't want a flood. Think I may play it safe and do the ol' ice bath

    Too cold for wort chiller?

Question, The high on Saturday (brew day of course) here in Colorado is 4 degrees. If I keep my hose inside right up til the moment I need to chill, then run out and hook it up/turn on the water will I be ok? Plumbing experts? I sure don't want any pipes to freeze and bust. Obviously I'm...

    Bad Brew Day

Happy to report.... Tonight I did a dual sparge on about the same grain bill. My 2nd sparge still yielded 1.028 gravit and my overall gravity was 1.065. My target as 1.070 and I ended about .25 gallons high so I was almost spot on!

    Bad Brew Day

Sounds like I need to use a little more sparge. The large grain bill probably soaked up more water and I compensated by added a little more water to the kettle. Thanks for the input. I'm brewing another large bill tomorrow and I will sparge with whatever amount I need to hit my pre boil volume...

    Bad Brew Day

just the way I've always done it. I heard if you over sparge it creates off flavors. Also, I run off into the gallon or so already boiling, figuring it held stop enzymatic activity

    Bad Brew Day

My biggest fear was the possibility of un-fermentables in the final product. I did not due an iodine test, however I always taste it and it was definitely sweet tasting.

    Bad Brew Day

Saturday i brewed Northern's Grapefruit Pulpin Clone. When i ordered the kit i new it was probably a little too much for my Mash tun (5gal) but i ordered it anyway. I have my system down pretty good for brews up to 12 lbs of grain. This one had almost 14 lbs. I mashed it with only 1.1 qt/s...
