You're exactly right that i tried to force carb with the beer gas. Well, at least now I know what I did wrong! Thanks for the help.

That shouldn't be a problem. Many of the people I know who keg keep extras at room temp until there's space to put them on tap.

How long did you age the RIS on the oak cubes? 2 oz of bourbon soaked cubes in the beer for 3-4 weeks usually works well for me.
