    Did you ever make this beer? The most potent psychoactive ingredient of khat is destroyed by room temps and above. So if you wanted that effect I would say "dry herbing" at lagering temps would be the way to go...

    DME into cold water in fermenter

    I usually use the cold water dme method, works fine for me. Have tried using hot water and like you, had problems with clumping. I haven't really heard any convincing arguments for not just using cold water, and wonder if it just a hangover from all grain brewing. I would be interested to know...
