Are you building hop harvesting or drying equipment?

    It's a necessity!

You did, but we are waiting one more year before releasing stuff. Just to be safe/comfortable!

We are the owners of the Pompius Plucker. Sorry we haven't divulged information yet, but we have only tested/used it one season on 2 and 3 year plants. We were happy with it last season (averaged 145 bines/hr) and picked 85-90% once we dialed it in (the last weekend of harvest of course..lol)...

University of Vermont (UVM) can turn around analysis in 1 week (at least they have for us). Also check with Alpha Analytics, KAR laboratories, and AG Health Laboritories. All online info on their websites

Keep up the good work! It looks like you are on the right track! And please, don't take my advice negatively, I have asked many questions to other commercial farms, and am still learning while putting in our 3rd acre!

Just a word of advice, 15% is not dry enough. Hops need to be dried to the 8-10% range., 12% max. In NYS, it is against state regs to package anything above 12% (not to mention needing a license to package as dried hops are a change in form). Check with your state so you don't end up with a...

    Rain before harvest??

It sucks when harvesting hundreds of hills when you start early in the morning. Dew and fog sucks!

    Rain before harvest??

If you are brewing with them right away, no problem. If you are going to dry them, it throws off the moisture content at all the start of drying, and makes it impossible to have accurate readings for when they will be properly dry

Use a dehumidifier. We do in our oast room, and can dry |1250 lbs wet down to 250 lbs drying a couple days. Each year we learn a new trick to remove a few hours. Trying to get it down to 18 hours next year

After a few tweaks to the machine, we were able to average 145 2nd year bines per hour. It picked at 90%-95% rate (5%-10% loss). We cranked out 885 bines in Friday, and 540 bines Sunday morning!

Yes, the UVM was one of the harvesters we looked at. The picking fingers are fixed speed, but everything else is variable. The UVM didn't have some of the adjustments we wanted, so we built them into our unit. It was made in house.

We're still adding up the cost. With harvest season going on and another 1 acre expansion, we should have numbers later this fall
