I've been using BF since my second batch of beer 3 years ago. Only yesterday did I discover BF doesn't take mash temps or PH entries into account when calculating OG. Does any of the currently available brew software do this?
I might. I'll see what it's like after it's crashed and carb'd. Just pulling the airlock to take the gravity reading unleashed a strong citra aroma. In the past I always dry hopped in the keg at about 48 degrees. This is the first batch I dry hopped at 68* in primary.
When I do IPAs, I've...
1: 2014
2: ~60 batches
3: 0
4-7: NA
8: I couldn't pick one. It also depends on the season. The saison I love in the summer won't stand up to a bourbon porter in mid winter. And vice versa
Yea, I ordered two new thermometers for my MLT just so I can get a better grasp on the varying temps in the mash. I usually measure at the top with a hand held thermometer and measure at the output during recirc but those two can easily vary by 10°.
Anyhow I just took a gravity reading and I...
Thanks MrPowers. I brewed and pitched today. I put the yeast back on the stir plate to mix things up and once again it blew the top. There was only 1600mL in a 2L flask. I'm excited to watch the real ferment now!
So 2-1/2 days since repitching and no change in gravity. I'm guessing the issue wasn't under pitching but instead mash temps. If something was going to happen, I should see movement by now, right?
I'll be brewing my first Hefeweizen on Thursday. I made a 2L starter last night with Wyeast 3068 and twice made a big ol' mess on my counter. I went to the Wyeast site and I see the yeast requires 33% available headspace. For the 5.5 gallons I typically put in each fermenter, that would mean I...
Starter is going. I imagine I'll have high krausen in the morning. I had to make one 2L starter since my other stir plate is working on Thursday's brew.
The Todd had already been dry hopped two weeks ago also. I'm not sure if I will add oxygen before repitching. Open to suggestions...
I attached my two fermentation charts if anyone is interested. I'm thinking I'll buy a pack of WLP007 and make two 2-liter starters to see if it'll finish. Is that the right move?
I recently moved to brewing 10 gallon batches and dividing batches into 6 gallon fermenters. I'm still figuring out the best yeast starter setup for dividing the starter between fermenters equally. Anyhow, I have 2 fermenters filled with a Todd The Axeman clone. I'm 6 weeks into fermentation and...
Looks good! I had mold on my first batch also. It was in the house which is in the low 60s. I just did a new batch in my fermentation chamber this weekend and am keeping it at 70°. Reading this makes me want to up the temp.
Sorry, that should have said "one leg and neutral." Are the black and red wires (legs) wired to your element? If you have black and white (neutral) or red and white wired to the element, you will only get 120v across the element and only 1/4 of the wattage.
