    Honey Yeast Isolation Refined

This is awesome. I use to isolate mushroom strains years ago and this is the same approach. Makes me want to build a laminar flowhood again and get my feet wet with yeast isolation.

    Peptic Enzyme

1-gal batch. Primary blueberries was 20 oz (just over a pound). In secondary I plan to put in a 10-oz bag of organic frozen blackberries, as well as a vanilla bean.

    Peptic Enzyme

Yeah my bad. Pectic is what I meant. Apparently my auto correct didn’t like the word and switched it to peptic lol.

    Peptic Enzyme

My blueberry mead, Bilbomel Baggins, was pitched 5/10 and racked to secondary today (6/2). OG: 1.090 FG: 1.000. I put 1/2 tsp of peptic enzyme in primary per the directions of the bottle. I added Potassium Sorbate so fermentation doesn’t restart before I backsweeten with a touch more of honey...

    Cause for concern?

Still smells slightly fruity and “wine” like. If it spreads I’ll take more pictures.

    Cause for concern?

47F1E784-B3BE-4037-AE14-5CA8EDBB01AC by BilbomelBaggins posted May 20, 2019 at 3:45 PM Is it just yeast? This was racked into this 1-gal carboy about a week ago. My first batch so wasn’t sure if this is normal. Full disclosure: as it is my first batch, I misunderstood the use of campden...

    Wine Thief for 1-gal carboy

Anyone have a suggestion for a wine thief that will fit into the neck of a standard 1-gal carboy? Just bought one and it doesn’t fit.

    New guy is confused

Great info, thank you! Seamonkey and Bob pretty much cleared it up. I was confused on why the SG readings on the hydrometer has increments that read 70, 80, and 90. I see now those numbers simply represent 1.070, 1.080, and 1.090, and so on. In all the guides and research on how to read a...

Thank you! That may help me understand it a little better.

I’ll also get a pic of my hydrometer when I get home.

    New guy is confused

It was a one gallon batch of blueberry mead. The recipe and amounts I used aren’t in front of me, but it was 2lbs of frozen/thawed blueberries, 3 lbs of local honey, and Red Star Premier Rogue was the yeast pitched (half a packet). There was also 1/2 a teaspoon each of yeast energizer and acid...

    New guy is confused

I made my first batch a week ago. Everything seemed to go fine, except I think I got confused on what to put down as my OG. I took a sample before I pitched yeast and used my hydrometer. I was definitely confused on what number I was reading and I put down “90” which was the only number I was...

    Greetings!

Hello everyone. Excited to start learning. It took me 3 tries and 2 email accounts before I was allowed to register, but hey better late than never! I have a one gallon batch going so I’ll be posting some “help me” posts after searching the archives for things that have been asked a million...
