Looks like a whole lb. of dark malts will do the trick for next time. Thanks for the input. I think I will try one of the carafa malts or the midnight wheat for the next black IPA.
I made my first attempt at a black IPA but it did not turn out as dark as I desired. I did some research on this site about what grains people were using in their black IPAs. I saw many people were using carafa III. When I got to my LHBS they only had Carafa II, and I asked them about it...
I couldn't find one either, so I used a nylon washer and an o-ring on the inside of the cooler and zinc plated on the outside of the cooler. Works well and doesn't leak. Good luck!
