Can I use 55 gallon food grade regular steel barrels as a fermenter? I can get them really cheap however, I'm worried that my sanitizer would pit the food grade coating on the inside. These are not stainless just regular steel.
I can get 55 gallon food grade steel drums for 15 bucks. They are food grade and used to ship apple juice and junk. They are not stainless. My question is can I use these as fermenters or would my sanitizer pit the coating on the inside.
I actually have a medical air pump used for albuturol. I sanitized the crap out of that and he tube removed the airlock and gave a blast of air for a couple of minutes. Hopefully that will kick start it again. Im going to be switching from dry to liquid yeasts from here on in.
