    Smoked Malts: Appropriate Amounts

    I don't know the brew store has them in 1 lb bags labeled "Smoked Malt". I don't mill my own grain so I don't have the bag to see exactly what it was. But it didn't smell like smoke when we milled it...and it doesn't taste like Peat smoke which I associate with Islay Scotchs (which I love)...

    OK...I think the 1 Hab and 1lb of Mango makes more sense. Check. I will be using 1gal glass jugs....for secondary. I believe fermenting the mead en masse is the better plan. That way I can do some SLIGHT nutrient additions...keep it healthy...and maintain some consistency batch to batch. It...

    Going to brew these Friday evening. All will be 1 gal batches. Following the JAOM basics of 1gal batch + handful of raisins. 3 lbs honey with no secondary and using bread yeast to keep it sweet... Blackberry / Vanilla 1-2lbs Blackberries 2 Vanilla beans JAOM 1 Large orange (peeled)...

    Ran out of CO2 when purging keg!

    Go get a paintball CO2 tank from Walmart. I keep one (along with an adapter to connect it to my regulator) in case of times like this. Even without the adapter you could just blanket the beer with CO2 and close until you can refill your bottle.

    Why do big breweries mainly create lagers?

    It can't be for the flavor. ;) Seems that lagers take longer and require more resources to produce than ales. So why are all the main breweries concentrating on these?

    I've no doubt... But I have NO space for my current hobbies let alone my family. :D I don't even have space for a kegerator let alone the materials to keep one filled. I'm a guitar player and sales analyst...have experience with Gibson, Diezel, and Excel if anyone wants to shoot...

    Always been interested in brewing...never done it. Don't have the space here...moving shortly. Will start a mead and a 2x beer setup. :wave: :mug:
