I oxygenated by shaking for about five minutes in the carboy. The temp reading came from the temp strip on the side of the carboy. It could be off I suppose. With both of them being bigger hoppier beers I wasn't able to get a full five gallons out of it so I couldn't put a thermometer in there...
After doing some searching on here regarding the bubblegum off flavor I found that it was usually due to high fermentation temperatures. I don't think that this is the case here. I closely watch my temps daily and they stay in the 67-68 range. I have had two beers give me this flavor and aroma...
My wife will make fun of me when I talk about beer or brewing because I will get really into it. She'll walk up to the pot and make funny sarcastic remarks like "ohh so hoppy you're brewing" or look into the beer and talk kind of dirty to it by saying "I wanna dry hop the **** out of you". It...
Check out brewing tv episode 53. They talk about using either the Bavarian lager strain or a west coast lager strain at ale temps. They do a side by side taste test with an ale yeast with good results.

So this past weekend my buddy and I were using our blichmann burner for the second time. After using it for the strike and sparge water fine, it back fired by the hose. I was wondering what may have caused this. It happened three times before we brought out the old turkey fryer burner. Some more...
I just checked and the ppg was set at 38 for the flaked corn. After the adjustment it only changed a little bit. It's a step in the right direction though.
My brew buddy and I are struggling with efficiency when using flaked corn. The first time we used it our volume was short, could possibly be from a longer mash that he decided to do. The second time using it I came up .010 off my OG. Has anyone else run into this issue or have any advise for me...
