Thanks for the feedback. Il give it another week and next time do a hydrometer reading instead of refractometer. I mashed at 160 cause I wanted a malty body.
Hi fellow brewers, I am trying to figure out something regarding my current gravity reading. I am 9 days into fermentation. Here is what I did...
Grain bill
6 gallon batch...
8 lbs smoked malt
4 lbs munich
1 lb cararoma
.5 lb chocolate malt
1lb corn sugar
BIAB method...
Hi, I pitched at about 75-77. According to the pitch calculator I used. I only underpitched slightly. The OG was 1.050 so not a big beer. It called for like 1.1 packs of S 04 which seemed like such a small difference didn't seem necessary to get an additional pack to only use a 10th of it...
OK, I'm a fairly new homebrewer, but have enjoyed much success with my brews up until my most recent brew. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. I'm thinking it was something with the yeast but thats where I need some advice sO, I can avoid this problem in the future.
Here is what I did...
Thank you Hopfather. I learn something new every time I come to this forum. I did not know that Crystal was fully converted and was only to be used mainly for flavor. I'll cut down to .5 lb of crystal next time. Also I might add an additional half oz of galaxy or comparable hop for bittering...
Hi fellow homebrewers,
I just bottled an IPA and the uncarbonated beer tasted absolutely wonderful. The only way it could have been better was if the bitterness was a little bit higher. It was a tad on the sweet side. And I really mean just a small margin of sweetness. My question is...
Thank you all for the advice. So, the crystal 40 I'll definitely cut back. How much more grain would it take for me to reach 1.070 estimated OG? That was why I was going to add the corn sugar. Will it dry it out too much if I use the corn sugar? Also, it seems I should cut back on the hops...
I want put together a good recipe for an iPA using centennial and citra hops. Here's what I have so far. I'm looking for a nice hoppy IPA but balanced. Here's what I have so far.
BIAB
Batch volume - 5 gallon
Desired OG - 1.070
Desired final gravity - 1.010
9lbs rahr 2 row
1lb...
Thanks for the reply. What hops would you recommend for bittering in this recipe? I would want something that would compliment the hallertaur hops. Fuggles maybe?
Also, the smokiness from the cherrywood malt is quite subtle. I'm hoping someone here has used it before and could recommend...
I did my first recipe for an extract brew. Here's what I did.
6lbs LME
3.15 lbs Munich malt
Specialty grains
1lb cherrywood smoked malt
.5 lb of victory malt
.25 lb dark crystal malt
.5lb of chocolate malt
Hops
3 oz's of German hallertaur hops.
Also a whirlfloc tab...
Hey Guys,
I used 2 packs of Safale US-05. It says the yeast does fine in 59-72 degrees. I took my OG reading after aearating my wort pouring it from one bucket to the next. I did that twice. It got really really frothy. Could all of those tiny air bubbles given me a false OG reading? I...
did you mean infection and not inflection?
I hope not infection. I've have been seriously OCD about sanitizing and cleaning and I haven't noticed an off colors, cloudiness, or flavors.
