I was at my LHBS today and saw that Fermentis K-97 and S-189 are available in 11g sachets again, as well as a new cider strain. It's my understanding that they were previously available but Fermentis discontinued the 11g size, making them available only in 500g blocks.
I just used K-97 (broken down and repackaged from a 500g block) from American Brewmaster in a grodziskie and an altbier, and aside from a sandy sediment it's a pretty nice yeast. Supposedly it's equivalent to Wyeast 1007 German Ale.
I've been wanting to brew a Samichlaus clone for a while now, and S-189 is from the Hurlimann brewery, the original brewers of Samichlaus, so this might motivate me. Equivalent to WLP885 Zurich Lager.
I haven't found any info on the cider yeast yet.
Has anyone used S-189 for any other beers? Pilsners? Marzens? How did they turn out?
