Have a buddy that has had his beer(vienna Lager) in the fermentor for 8 weeks. He is afraid it is ruined now. Should he go ahead and bottle?

8-weeks is good for a lager! means he left it lone (hopefully) and allowed the beer to clear up and fully ferment. still should take a gravity reading before bottling though.

Its fine. There should still be plenty of yeasties to carb it up. The taste should be fine as long as everything went well. The time wont hurt it any.

Most average gravity ales are absolutely fine in primary for a good 4-6 months. Most standard lager fermentations are a good 8-12 weeks, including the actual lagering phase. Translation, this beer is not only fine, it's going to be better with that 8 weeks of conditioning!
