Howdy-
New to the game. I am planning on getting into starter yeast with stir plate. Is there a general ratio for the amount of DME and starter yeast per fermenter? How much DME for 1 gallon? 5 gallon? etc. Will a 1000 mL Erlenmeyer be sufficient for small batch brewing or would it be wise just to get a 2000 mL if planning to upgrade to a bigger set up? Any wise words for someone getting into starter yeast?

Thanks

E.t.h.

I always use 1 gram per 10 ml, or 100 grams per liter

Edit: and I would go with the 2L flask, just in case. I routinely make starters over 1L

A 2L flask is good. Mix 200 grams of DME with enough water to bring up to 2L. Boil it for 15 minutes and chill to pitching temp. If you get a bigger Pyrex flask with 2L mark on it you can boil it in the flask without fear of boil over. The economy flasks can not be used to boil in.

Get the 2L. Much more versatile.

Other wise words......build yourself a stir plate.
