My buddy is a wheat farmer and has access to free wheat. We malted what ended up being 2lbs after the whole process and now we want to brew it. My question is will the wheat itself have the enzymes to create fermentable sugars or do I have to use base malt?

Wheat malt is a base malt.

It is hull-less though, so it's a bugger to lauter. You can get around that by using a bag for it, since it's only two pounds.
