i just sanitized a muslin bag and put the pellets in

as i put it in the fermenting bucket i realized it was gonna sink to the bottom and i didn't like that, so i clipped the corner of the bag under the bucket lid. this has the hops just on/under the top surface of the beer.

good move?

better to let them sink to the bottom?

doesn't matter?

It doesn't matter. I don't use bags, but many do. Some even add marbles to the bag to make them sink! But it really doesn't matter as long as the hops are loose in the bag so they can be in contact fully with the beer.

I use no more than 1oz of pellet hops in the small muslin hop sacks. for whole leaf hops,1oz in a muslin grain sack,as they have greater volume per the same weight. This does sem to allow for good hop utilization.
