Like the title says...My 4.5 oz 5 min addition halted the rolling boil of 5.5 gallons of wort.
Never have I felt like such a hop head..

4.5oz aroma addition? I'd have used 3.5oz of it as a dry hop for more aroma.
Anyway,adding that much hops can act like what we called "chill scrap" in the foundry. We tossed in some scrap of the same type of metal when the molten iron was too hot. Same effect here.
