Hello,

I am a first time brewer and I bought a recipe partial mash kit for oatmeal stout. Followed the directions and 8 days in I took a sample to test the specific gravity only to discover the once very dark wort is now medium caramel brown. Is this normal? Any ideas why it turned much lighter and if it will go back to dark?

It's lighter because you have a lot of yeast particles in suspension and they reflect light. Once it completes its ferment the yeast will clump together and settle to the bottom leaving you with a dark beer again.
