Mine's a love/hate kinda job...therapist in a residential treatment center for adolescent males. I love it but man can they be a PITA! Only thing I'd rather be doin is brewin! Pics would be seriously illegal...

That's cool, even if you don't have or can't takes pics of the job you love, please feel free to chime in!:mug:

I love being a field linguist, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Half the year, my office is the picture below. (The other half, it's a dusty library, but at least the beer's better!)

I'm a CNC Machinist. I love my job. Being able to create damn near anything from just a solid hunk of steel is damn satisfying. Plus, in the spare time... oh, I need a special bracket for my Mustang? MACHINED! Oh, you'd like some super fancy engraved plates to print your wedding invitation? MACHINED!

And anyone who hasn't seen a 5-axis machine doing it's duty is missing out:

Very cool video. I am also a CNC machinist, and love what I do. These are some of the things I work on.

I do indeed.

I am a hack machinist at best. I play with my mill and lathe a bit but skill and my photo will never be linked.

On the bright side I have enjoyed the machine porn pictures :ban:

Commercial insulator here. I take great pride in the work I do. I do hate getting all itchy though.

During the day I work on software which supports the Home Health and Hospice side of healthcare. As an IT person I feel lucky to be in healthcare IT, as person who lost his father a couple years back being able to help those who help people in hospice care really speaks to me.

As a side gig, I do pyro:

Pays just enough to pay the help and buy dinner, but come on, I get to blow things up! :) I also do hobby pyro which means I make my own shells, rockets, etc.:

I think we need a HUGE like button for the pyro bit.

When my mom died we used hospice and I have to tell you the nurse was a saint. Better people can not be found in my book :mug:

From reading your posts, I couldn't imagine you doing anything less cool than that, and I don't even really know what it is. Would you care to elaborate?

Not really a job I guess, but I've been WOOFing( World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) for a month or so now, and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. Working outside with crops and animals all day, getting dirty, I couldn't be happier.

I program intelligent lighting for corporate events and other client rentals. It's a pretty schweet job!

Back in the day, most linguists went off and gathered their own research data. Since the 60s, though, most just analyze documented grammars or language databases. As a field linguist, I'm the guy who goes out and puts those things together. Basically, I show up in a village somewhere, follow people around with a tape recorder, and hope I don't make a nuisance of myself.

I love the work itself, though I suspect most would find it dry and technical. But, since I work mostly on endangered languages, I get to spend a lot of time traveling way off the beaten track. It's great fun! :mug:

That sounds like an amazing job! I'm terribly ignorant of languages(and most things really), but I find other languages and just language itself fascinating. It's something I would love to learn more about, and have spent quite a bit of time pondering.

Those are some nice looking parts. They also look like they must be a PITA to check! Does your shop have a specific product you make parts for?

Our shop is a job shop so we're always changing set-ups and making brand new parts. That's one of the reasons I like my job; if it was just production all the time I would go crazy. Now I'm hands on with the part from blueprint to Mastercam to set-up to finished product. It's fun some days, hair-pulling most, but always satisfying at the end of the day.

Yeah, that's exactly my situation. We are a job shop making components mainly for medical (optometry) and oil and gas exploration. I also take parts from print forward, I'm using Gibbs CAM/CAD. The main frustration is the owners, if they would only stay home the job would be easier. I don't like production work, and haven't had to do too much lately as we only have a couple setup guys now. Most of our lots are 250 pieces or less so nothing is ever up for too long.

Impressive fabrication. I love my job too!

Very much looking forward to field season!

Anybody got any favorite melon wine recipes?

Shaky, are you a breeder? Only time I've seen an operation like that was at Syngenta. Very cool!

Thanks, I got it used a few years back for a decent price. Had to replace one print head and two dampers when it got here. It's been running ever since.

it's a small world, when you see other sign guys on beer forums. but something has to take the edge off!

Yep. I am a matchmaker for melons. Truthfully, I just put on the Marvin Gaye and nature takes care of the rest.

It's deciding which of their children must die that is the <strike>hard</strike> fun part.

This is Kaleel, one of the many rescued pups that have grace Hidden Valley Wolfdog Sanctuary...

The image of me holding him is shortly after we busted him out of jail

The image of the three pups is his new home and Kaleel full grown!!!

He was left for dead near Coolidge Arizona. The local animal control picked him up and he was put on the e list (euthanasia list)...We saved him, and now he is in a wonderful home!!!

Yeah, I F*n love my job!

You guys make me wish my job was flashier, but I do love it. I do research for accounting policy and federal compliance issues. I know it sounds boring, but really it has it's upsides, I'll forego the pictures since it'd just be me at my desk or in a conference room.

Looks like there are a few of us on HBT. I've been working from home for a while now. Got a Fadal mill and Hardinge CNC lathe stuffed into a one and a half car garage along with manual machines. Only four axis on the Fadal, but can still make some pretty interesting stuff. The job still has its moments, but after over 40 years in the business, I'd rather be brewing!
