I just made a starter with 650mL water and 2.6oz of DME (~1/2cup). Boiled 15-20min, cooled and took a reading: 20% Brix ?? Can that be right? My DME ratio was a little high, but maybe 1.045-1.050.... not 1.080. I even cleaned the prism and took a second reading. Same.
I pitched and have it on a stir plate. But, any ideas why it read so high?
