Soup can hop spider?

Is there any reason this is not a good idea? I see everyone going "Cheap" using a pvc couple but some have shown that this is not food safe and they can melt. Option two, is to use a SS sink flange, but those are like $15. So would cutting the top and bottom off of a 1$ can of soup a good alternative?
 
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that soup cans still contain BPA. Which is more of a hazard when heated.
 
Yeah. I think some cans have a "plastic" liner. I also thought of this, but I wondered if it would rust. I made a cheap hop basket with $1.50 paint strainer, free copper wire and a free dowel: CLICK
 
Oh well, gonna go with just filtering out the hops with EZ Strainers
They are cheap and look very effective, plus you get all your hop utilization.
